    Bluebell Railway - Sunday 14th April 13

    Hi

Myself and Rob (HHCanon) visited most of Sussex on Sunday (don't ask!)... originally intending to walk round Weir Wood Reservoir, but unfortunately the paths were just too waterlogged for our liking, so we visited The Bluebell Railway, amongst other venues!

Here's a selection of shots I'm quite happy with. A bit of a departure from my usual wildlife, so please bare with me!

All shots on my 7D, with the 15-85 IS USM.

I thought I'd try a couple of Sepia effect ones (first time for me)...

    The Pointsman...

These guys were discussing why the 'other train' was late... I just love the guy on the right!

    All the best, Mike.

Nice set, Pointsman is may favourite of this set. The sepia treatment gives it a nice bygone era feel

Good shots and I agree with Sandra that Pointsman is the best.

Thank you Sandra, Colin and Tom for viewing and commenting.

Pointsman is definitely my favourite so far, but I have a few others up my sleeve from the day!

          Cheers, Mike.

All very nice Mike, I like the fact that there are hardly any modern things in to detract from the shots, just a wall heater in the colour shot inside the Signal Box, as others have said the Pointman is a great shot and finished effect.

Good catch too of the Candids, and all are sharp, with good colour and composition.

            Regards Paul

Thanks Paul, I appreciate you looking and your comments.

The Bluebell Railway seems to be quite an authentic railway, with all the staff in uniforms, and old cases dotted around, so yes, shame about the wall heater!

As to composition, I know what I like when I see it, but I have trouble explaining it sometimes! Perhaps I should get a book on comp, and have a read?

              All the best, Mike.

                    lol - yeah, that's him!
He's got that strained look on his face 'cos he ate all my pork pies! ha ha.

Rob, thanks for a great day and for driving me round Sussex, and for your favourable comments on here and Flickr. Defo must go back there for some more shots.

                    Cheers, Mike.

A very good set, looks like you had a great day. Do like the Pointsman and the signal box shot.

On the abstract roof shot, I'd be tempted to crop the top and bottom and just leave the strong diagonals at the sides, emphasising the abstract nature of the photo and making the most of the finials and the shadows they make. imho.

I might just have another play with the roof shot... at the time I processed it, I wasn't too sure whether I should be more extreme, so it's interesting you picked up on that.

                          Watch this space!

                          Cheers, Mike
