    Canon 14XEF III 1.4x Extender

Can anyone please confirm that the Canon 14XEF III 1.4x Extender will work properly with the Canon EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS lens. I have been told that the auto focus does not work. So I don't want to spend my money on something that doesn't do what I want it to do. All replies welcome.

    Thanks
    Nigel.

Re: Canon 14XEF III 1.4x Extender

When your lens is zoomed out to 400mm it operates as a f5.6 lens. Adding a 1.4 extender (of what ever make or model) will convert it into an f8 lens. Only the Canon 1D models and the new 5D mk3 (with latest firmware update) are capable of using auto focus with an F8 lens.
    I hope this helps

There is the trick of taping the terminals to fool the camera and then it will autofocus but much too slowly to make doing it worthwhile
