    2 weeks cycling around Skye and Harris

    I have just returned from a 2 week cycling trip around the Isles of Skye and Harris. We started in Armadale and cycled to Uig via Sligachan and a detour to the Talisker distiller at Carbost where I may have spent a bit much...

    We then went over to Harris but only stayed 2 days. I must go back sometime soon.

    In total we covered just over 200 miles. That is with two weeks of camping equipment attached to the back of our bikes which made them so heavy you couldn't lift them and all my DSLR equipment on my back.

      Nice to see some images of one of my favourite places, Skye. Will be back there myself in October, however my exercise will be limited to walking various locations. Hope you enjoyed Talisker as much as I did.

        Very nice sets there Damian, and thank you for happy memories from me as well of a cycling tour round Scotland (too many years ago). Lighter bikes, but over 1000 miles in 2 weeks is still a push with some of those hills!

        In the first set, my favourite is #4, then #4, with #4 a close third! #5 is also well up there, great lead in with the road, and the starkness/beauty of the countryside. #3 in the second set is also very good indeed.

            Well, I was pale white and now I'm kinda brown :P
            Lovely weather but some suncreams would have been good. We had to cycle 9 miles to Portree to get some...

              1000 mile D: hell that's a lot!

              We're thinking of doing island hopping next but with more money so we can stay in bunk houses and hostels and take nothing.
              No 4 is nearly gone now. We may have enjoyed it too much... :P

                  All credit to you, I could just about cycle to the shops and back. The last time I cycled more than 200 miles, it was with a 1,000cc engine between my thighs!

                  For me, you kept the best image until last. I love the stormy sky, with the grass in the foreground nicely lit.

                    Great set of images. The last one is my favourite followed by number 2. Like Antoeknee and Mike they bring back happy memories of visits to the islands. I can thoroughly recommend an island hopping tour. A friend and I travelled (road bike, saddlebag and handlebar bag) from Oban to Coll and then on up through the islands to finish in Lewis. We stayed mostly in B & B's. Our mileage was a little more modest than Mike's - about 40 a day.

                        Some very nice shots, I think the Scottish landscape has a lot to offer. You must have some stamina to cycle that far!

                            Nice shots. Well done. I like the shot with the bottle of Talisker a bit better than the rest although all are good.
