    Orton Effect try out

I also tried Les's Orton Effect edit and have posted some images below. I used the effect quite lightly and as Les pointed out in his tutorial, it works better on some images than it does with others. Overall, I'm very pleased with this effect and I think I'll be using it when it suits the image type.

Superb Andy - Ive got to have a go at this sometime. They have a pseudo HDR look to them -tell me Im wrong please,...cos I posted something like this 2 years ago and got a complete ear bashing from one forum member (ex)...just because of the PP I used.

I think it adds a kind of ethereal quality to some images and I'm very surprised at how easy it is to apply, I wish I were aware of this effect sooner! I'm all for trying new types of image editing, it can re-vitalize an image that was perhaps missing that certain something.

It has worked for you on these images Andy, well done for taking the time to try it out

I think I have seen the images on earlier threads of yours and IMO this set seem to give them more punch. It is a quite easy edit technique and it makes me want to revisit some of my images and try it out.

Cheers Peter. I think it's worth a try to see if it makes a difference.

Well done Andy, I thing the "Stream on the moors" really benefits from this treatment. I will have to try it out myself when I get the time.

                  Bill.

                      Re: Orton Effect try out

What a great series Andy, I particularly like West Burton and Rainbow gate but I think all the images are top-notch on their own, but the feel that the Orton effect gives to them takes them to an even higher level.

Are you softening/defocussing the entire second layer, or is there an area which remains in perfect focus (as may be the case with the original technique of opening the aperture)?

Thanks Steve. I'm just following the guide, but on some of the images I've reduced the opacity of the effect. Also, the effect looks a little different with some images anyway.
