Any views on the above lens. I find that it is quite good and produces good definition.

I have seen many good pictures taken on this lens and the few lens reviews I have seen, seem to rate it highly.

For its price, it seems to punch well above its body weight.

Quick question - I have just purchased a 450D with a twin lens Kit: 18mm-55mm IS and 55mm-250mm IS.

I have had very little chance to play with either lens and I'm just about to go to Europe and go crazy with the camera.

Can everyone tell me what each lens 'sweet spot' is. I have read somewhere that both lenses lose their sharpness beyond f11.

Can anyone provide any feedback on this?

Here's a sample gallery of 55-250 images... you can judge for yourself how good (or bad) you think the results are... NOTE that they will be from a variety of bodies; but I would suspect that most will be from the xxxD range... The few I tested were anyway...

I think the 55mm-250mm IS lens is far better than the EF75mm-300mm USM iii lens; it produces sharper results.

these two lenses (18-55mm & 55m-250mm) are very good for the price. They produce very sharp results and a good base to build on.

Take a look in my monthly photo album all thoise pictures were taken with the 55-250 is lens on a d500 all various settings tried still learning.

I have this lens and have managed to capture some great images with it - it is definitely good value for money.
My mine gripe with it is its speed focusing. Without USM, it is incredibly slow at times and the AF often scans backwards and forwards numerous times before it locks. For me this is so frustrating that it puts me off using it, but it is a good lens to have as back up if i need to get a long distance shot.

Most lens are softer after about F11/13 - referred to as diffraction

Well u know what I think Nat. but to be fair I bought mine in haste when I first started on this long journey. If I could do it all again i would probably get a 70-200 non IS and then a 1.4 extender...but i am beginnining to find the love again for the 55-250!

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS shows very good resolution from f/3.5 to f/11 with a peak at f/5.6 & f/8 with a slight drop at f/11. Max resolution 18mm to 30mm.
There can be a comparatively high degree of vignetting at 18mm @f/3.5.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS shows very good resolution from f/4 to f/11 with a very slight peak at about f/5.6. Max resolution at short end 55mm.
Again there can be a degree of vignetting at large aperature setting but stopping down with improve this.
This lens is weakest between 200-250mm but still produces good images.

Both lenses can produce excellent results.

I understand. Confusion settled. Yes I have the 70-200 f4 L Non IS lens & quite happy with it. Not sure whether I'd want a 1.4 extender- non Canon ones are much cheaper and perhaps good value for money as it won't be used that often like the lens on it's own.

I have brought this lens only becuase the 55-250IS is an amazing lens for the price, but i don't think it's fair to compare this lens with an L lens
