    Bird identification help

Can anyone suggest what these are? I've checked teh interweb and my books on birds but nothing leaps off the page. All shot at Slimbridge but there's nothing on the site to suggest what they are...

    1. A goose methinks...

                    Re: Bird identification help

The biggest problem with Slimbridge, Penclacwydd and other reserves with dozens of different ducks is that they interbreed, producing unidentifiable mish-mashes. Some only last one generation, others go on and interbreed with other ducks.

Best thing is to have a reliable book like the Collins Guide and, if the birds exist in a recognised fashion, they'll be in there, otherwise...... PLT (Pretty Little Duck) is what I label 'em.

                    Nice shots, btw.

                      Re: Bird identification help

You must also bear in mind that a lot of the captive birds are from round the world so your UK guide isn't going to help much.

                        Re: Bird identification help

                        1 - red breasted goose
                        2 - red crested pochard
                        3 - rosybill
                        4 - australian shoveler
                        5 - falcated duck

Best thing is to have a reliable book like the Collins Guide
the collins only covers birds of Europe and many of the birds at WWT fall outside that area. Best thing is next time you visit a WWT, buy their Walkabout Guide and in the back are pictures and ID for most of the ducks and geese you are likely to see
