    Flickr Alternatives?

Hi, I'm having trouble with Flickr. None of my pictures come up in searches... I have tagged my picture, my account has been approved. Even searching in my 'own' pictures is very hit and miss using my tags! I have been reading online, that a lot of people are having the trouble in recent months.

So, What other free sites do you recommend? I have looked online and there appears to be lots of 'pay' sites, or sites for teens tagging their friends doing stupid things. What is there in a similar theme to Flickr, that works?

A lot of photographers are using Google+ for their social media/gallery viewing. I sideline 500px along with flickr, however, if it's tagging and searchability you're after then maybe 500px would be good.

Google+ can't be topped for web searches though. Granted, because google are making sure that everyones G+ posts get maximum hits on searches. The problem with photography is that you need to pay for everything.

There's a few other galleries I've tried like, Viewbug, Pixoto and Digital Rev, but always went back to Flickr.

      Hi
I would also suggest 500px - the search facility works well and it's more of a photographers site than a happy snapper type site - have a look at my gallery via the link below,
      Cheers

Thank you both very much. I shall have a look into 500px and see how that goes. I will also look into Google +, but I'm not over happy with them after discovering last week they had pretty much downloaded all the picture and info from my phone without me knowing! Seems a bit intrusive for my liking...

Is that correct? You mean they downloaded all your pics and other data? Even personal stuff? It doesn't sound right to me.

Quite a few Flickerites (who are not happy with the new Flickr) have gone to Ipernity which has a look very much like the old FLICKR. It is based in France and so a lot of the users are French, which may be a language problem in some areas (comments). But if you are a Francophile and like the old FLICKR look then you might like it.

I have just tried Photobucket which is very simple to use and posting to other Forums is a piece of cake, but still getting nowhere here - still the php problem.

                      Re: Flickr Alternatives?

I haven't really taken to the new Flickr layout, and find myself sticking to a few groups where I know there's going to be decent content published; let's face it, there is a lot of garbage and out & out porn on Flickr now, which is a shame.

I do upload to 500px, and initially found the quality of work there to be simply superb and well out of my league...

However, 500px seems to be attracting the same "Like", "Love" & "please view my images" symptoms which are inherent with Flickr and the whole EXPLORE thing.

A result of this is that really mediocre crap seems to make its way to the top of the pile, which kinda spoils the whole experience.

I've also looked at Google+ where there are some really great (and exclusive) groups, particularly the B&W stuff...

...but what a confusing interface to get your head around....!!!

Is there a Dummies Guide to Google+ out there anyone...???

                      ...there is symmetry in chaos....

I have tried Imgur in the past to upload a photo. Here is what it will look like.

I don't think they downloaded all your photos, do you mean they Uploaded all your photos from your phone to your google account on the web? Do you have the google photos App - or other Google account apps on your phone?

the Google photos app has a setting that gives you the option to auto back up - you can turn this off - I use it all the time, it means that when I take a pic on my phone, by the time I get back to my desk it is available for me on the pc - plus I have a permanent back up and can then take it off the phone, thus saving space, and it is still accessible via the hone if I want it - its brilliant. Similar options available in Microsoft onedrive and others

the app has changed a bit and used to auto upload with auto enhance on (but again you can turn that off) you can also opt for standard or original quality to manage your online space
