Re: 100 years of Leica
Kind of wonder that myself. Use to do bird photography with Oly OM kit.
OM1 all manual and then the OM2 came along which gave some auto on the exposure.
Exposure was quite critical if you were using slide film as the exposure latitude was quite small.Canon 5D3, 7D2, 60D, Canon 70-200L f2.8 IS II, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 16-35 f4 L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Canon 1.4 MkIII extender, Sigma AF 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary, Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD, Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

Re: 100 years of Leica
Yep still have mine as well. Have OM1, OM2n and OM2SP.
The OM2 had 2 sensors one that measured the light coming through the lens when the mirror was down and another that faced backwards towards the film and measured light reflected of the focal plane shutter curtains (if you look at them they have a fancy pattern of black and white squares) and the film during the exposure. As you say the exposure could be shortened/lengthened during the exposure if necessary.
At the time did make night exposures somewhat easier.Canon 5D3, 7D2, 60D, Canon 70-200L f2.8 IS II, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 16-35 f4 L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Canon 1.4 MkIII extender, Sigma AF 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary, Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD, Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS
