Maybe time for a new camera

Hi all, I thought I would stick my head back in here and ask for some advice.

Its been some time since I took any pictures, what with work, life and ...well enough of that!!

Took the 350D to Rhodes and started snapping and realised just how much I had missed the SLR.
I will review the shots taken and if there is anything approaching a reasonable standard I will put some up.

The reason for the post?? Whilst sat sitting having a meal in Lindos on the roof, the better half asked me if I wanted a new camera..

SO without being greedy, would a new camera offer much improvement over the 350, I am thinking 650/700?
Are the STM lenses any good? I like the idea of IS, as both my Sigmas are non IS.

    Cheers

I had an EOS 20D for several years and in the last year, upgraded to a 700D, but the biggest single thing that has changed my pictures and given me more confidence, was the purchase of a Canon 24-105mm L series lens. I've used it on the 20D as well as the 700D and I wish I'd bought that before upgrading the camera!

By all accounts the STM lenses are very good (better even than their non-STM counteparts.) They have been produced with "silent focusing" in mind especially for movies;but their optical performance is excellent.

OK, so I am looking at either a 650 or a 700. Body only as this will allow me to get the glass I want later, rather than getting 'kit lenses' and sticking with them.

Is the 700 worth the extra, bearing in mind I am still using the 350 at the moment?

Would it be worth looking at 2nd hand 700s?
MPB have them from £420 although there seem to be some in the UK on fleaBay for less than that for a new one?? (not sure about that though)

        Any thoughts??

No real difference between the 650D and the 700D. Get the 650D. The 600D and 650D have different sensors in them. The 650D is a good camera.

tbh looking at the differences in spec and coming from the 350 it looks like its going to be a massive step forward either way.

And the few quid saved will go towards a beer or two to 'steady my hand'!

              ANYONE help here?

60D body only, to go with my sigma 17-70mm and 70-300mm and Nifty 50 or 700D with 18-55mm STM lens? Priced about the same.

              HHELLLLLPPPPPP !!!!

I'd go for the 60D. It may have a similar sensor to the 650D/700D but the controls, handling and I believe AF will be a fair way ahead.

I have a 60D but did consider 650D. Reason I chose the 60D was that in my hands the 650 was too small. Either camera would be good choice but I'd suggest handling both to see which suits you.

OK so I've decided on the 60D (maybe? Lol) and I've started trolling the web looking for the best price. Reconditioned by Canon 525 dollars BUT only in the USA. Canon UK direct you to their eBay shop. £500!!!!

HDEW will be a new import but they do give a multi year guarantee. I have bought lens from them and they give excellent good old fashioned customer service. Worth giving then a phone call as they have a bricks & mortar shop as well as on-line.

Re: Maybe time for a new camera

Been looking at imported 60d from portus direct....some very good reviews, some good reviews, some poor. £410 approx, although I picked up a 700 again and it nice!

Decisions decisions,........oh and the 700 is only £299 ....so maybe room for a 55-250 STM as well !

you would probably be better going for the 60D
