    Canon 1.8 50mm & 18-135 STM reviews?

I'm looking to transfer over to Canon and am trying to decide on what to start out with. One of my main needs is a couple lenses that take great pictures but also are great for video. Any thoughts on these ones?

I would avoid the 50mm 1.8 completely. It has a noisy, slow and archaic micro-motor focussing motor and is awful for video. A great lens for stills though :)
I would look at the STM lenses - quick, almost silent focussing and great for video. The 40mm f/2.8 is a cracker, and great for stills too. Many people prefer this lens to a fixed 50mm perspective too, and I've often thought about getting shot of my 50mm as I tend to use the 40mm more.

I'd get stabilised lenses for video unless you plan to stick to tripods. I'd also agree the 40/2.8 is a good lens, though not for hand-help video.
What sort of lens and video requirements do you have?

I'm pleased with the 18-135 bought a few months ago. I haven't used it for video but reviews say it is particularly good when used with a camera designed to make best use of the STM focussing such as the 70D.

For right now I'm just getting into using video on my dslr. I'm headed off to college and am joining film clubs etc, and want lenses/a camera that can produce great video at the entry level for video. I don't have a 5D Mark III or anything, so I'm just looking for great video from a t5i or the 70D if I can save up for it.

I love the 50mm 1.8, it is cheap (you can buy it under the 100 euro) and very sharp. Oke, if you make a photo is sounds like you are firing a gun. But, it is the fantastic plastic. If the lens ia any good for video, i do not know ....
            With kind regards,

As I said earlier today... if you want to do video on a Canon camera other than the 5DmkIII (or Cxxx, or 1Dc) pick one supported by Magic Lantern...
Magic Lantern is a free firmware addon for Canon EOS DSLR cameras that adds a host of features to assist photographers and videographers. Unlock your Canon DSLR.

Also get a decent variable ND filter to fit your lens(es).
