    Split Toning - Salisbury Cathedral

    In the lastest issue of one of the photography magazines are a number of articles in respect of shooting / converting to mono, one of which is using split toning where different colours are asigned to shadows and highlights by using a gradient map. It works best with architecture/ interiors so during a rain shower this afternoon thought i would have a play with an old shot of the quire at Salisbury Cathedral

          Hi Stan; respectfully suggest that the blues need to be toned down a tad IMO... but I like the principle of it...
          Cheers;

            Thanks Lee

            According to the magazine the idea of using split toning is to inject drama into an image and I used the same toned colours as they did in their example - so blame them

              Stan, a really interesting effect and very well applied. Not for everyday use maybe, but it certainly does add impact. I'm assuming it was one of the projects in this months Digital Photo? (sorry Robert for mentioning another mag's name!). I'm still working my way through the issue as I know my own mono conversions leave a lot to be desired.

                  thats right. I usually try to work through some of the tutorials, some more useful than others - with this one though the most useful thing for me was the idea of converting to mono using the gradient map - something i had not thought of before
