My last stop before returning home for the time being. Cartagena used to be the gateway to Colombia and was the way in and out for the conquistadores and the gold. Sir Francis Drake captured it for 40 or so days before ransoming it back to the King of Spain. Then they built the walls and the castle, which the Brits failed to take. The castle is the biggest built in the Spanish colonies, but then it probably protected the most gold!
