      Thats the big question Ian????

The good thing is now Cameras are getting better at reducing noise I could quite happily shoot at 400mm f5.6 and get a good shutter speeds just upping the iso.So could good be a very useful pieces of kit! (though wouldn't get to much joy with converter attached).

It'll likely behave in the same way the 70-300 does with regards to zoom. It looks like the same IS system as the 70-200 2.8 MKII so if it's half as good on IQ it'll be a cracker. It will certainly pull back folk who don't like push/pull lenses.

Id like to think price wise its going to be in the 70-200 / 70-300 - hopefully the 1.4 will be a good partner....lets not go down the 2x road !!

I wouldn't be surprised if this, like its 75-300L sibling isn't compatible with the Canon TCs.
            Even so, it looks great

I can't see them offering up a new lens that won't take the converters

really didn't know that - the 70-200 does, so is the 70-300 an older lens as I don't know the release dates

The 70-300L lens is fairly newish being released in Aug 2010, and as I have it I can confirm it doesnt take the Canon convertors as it extends too far out when used and into the convertor, a shame really as I would have liked to be able to extend the reach sometimes

mmmm thats just bloody daft! - hopefully the 100-400 will as that could be a deal breaker for me in favor of the 150-600 sigma

How strange. They don't mention this in the user manual - bit of an oversight when so many L lenses are extender compatible.

They do mention it in the user manuals for the TCs, and the lenses I have too. Maybe it's an omission in the 70-300L brochure?
Well, I suppose all we can do is wait and see...??

The online manual for the 70-300L does say ("The EF1.4X III/EF1.4X II/EF2X III/EF2X II extenders cannot be used with this lens. There are no compatible close-up lenses") - on Page 14.

I think it would defiantly have a impact on sales if the TCs can't be used ... as you say, lets see
