I've never used Aperture on my Mac but Iphoto & Lightroom and both suit my needs well - If your not a LR user Jeff you should check it out as its a great tool for storing and editing images

      Re: End of an era

I've tried loads of different stuff. I use LR all the time but I actually preferred Affinity Photo, however it's in Beta at the moment with some bugs. If they get that system nailed it'll be a really good alternative to Adobe systems.

I've often found the annoyance with LR and PS of whether to just use one or the other. I find LR very limiting and just use it as a baseline RAW to TIFF convertor then finish off in PS. Affinity is a streamlined all in one bit of software system. For now though, I don't think there's much out there to touch LR.

Like Ian I use LR and PS. I often flick between the two before I'm happy.

Although camera raw and LR are the same but dressed differently, I just can't settle with camera raw, weird I know.

          Re: End of an era

basically i use aperture for storing all my downloaded pics in raw format ,it has a built in de-coder and a fairly logical storage system .i just go through my pics on there day by day and then send the chosen ones to PS6 for ALL post processing .any that i deem worth keeping after they have commented on etc are then stored in a separate finished project in aperture again as a j.peg file ,just in case i should be asked for them at any time (it does happen)

Hoping the new PHOTOS app will be worth the change Ian ,fighting shy of trying the beta but probably will just out of curiosity

Whilst I like using iPhotos for storing and albums, plus I have Apple TV so stream onto my TV ( great BTW if you've not tried it ) I don't see the new Photos app replacing LR as that offers so much more in relation to finding images and linking into other programs like PS - plus its a good editor
