You could also replace the hard drive with an SSD drive and coupled with a memory upgrade it should give it a new lease of life just make sure you have created your sony recovery media

Hi! I use an HP laptop which has a Intel Core i3 processor (Core i5 better, Core i7 best) and 8GB RAM (was 4Gb but was easy to upgrade to 8). Runs Office, PS and LR fine and use a free Anti Virus (Bitdefender free). I connect up to an external 19" screen (and sometimes the TV) via a VGA lead when I want to view/process on a larger screen.
www.ebuyer.com is usually a site where you can get a laptop for a decent price.

      Hope that helps

I had a similar situation last year, 4 year old VAIO, I replaced the HD with a SSD, added a bigger memory module and replaced the battery. Then I flattened and reloaded the OS and wow, it was much better than when it was new for lots of reasons. The reloading of OS gave it a 'as new' performance as it was not clogged up in the registry, the SSD was over 10 times faster at moving data than its old disk and the 4 x RAM probably helped too. In total it cost me about £180 for the upgrade but gave me a machine better than when it was new versus paying about £800 for a similar spec replacement.

        Just a thought......

Two things to keep in mind...I don't want a Mac.

I don't have room for a desk top (and they are not portable).

          Many thanks in anticipation.

In the last couple of years I have bought several machines, both desk-top and laptop, from PC Specialist (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/) and I and the other family members involved have all been very well pleased. You build your preferred specification then sit back and wait (not too long) and the prices seem very reasonable. well worth a look - it's where I will be going when I replace my laptop.
