    Bummer!

I tripped over a guy line at the village fete the other day and my G7 is now dead. Unfortunately I tripped just after I had taken a shot and the lens was still extended. It will not now extend or withdraw and the screen just says 'lens error'. I suspect it is what's termed as an uneconomic repair but if anyone knows otherwise I'd like to hear.

The camera was a good secondhand cash purchase with no receipt so not worth claiming on the home insurance for.

    R.I.P. G7?

    Re: Bummer!

so glad this thread wasn't posted in People & Portraits section ;o) ....

It does sound like your G7 is no more - If you like the camera it would probably be cheaper to buy another 2nd hand G7

    Sorry ....

Sad when this happens I'm with Ian on this John buy another unless of course you fancy trying to fix it yourself if so it may be worthwhile searching YouTube to see if there are any videos of people doing repairs. Having said that you would probably have to find and buy a G7 for sale as a spares or repair item.

If it's destined for the bin anyway I'd say take it apart and see if you can fix it yourself - it may just be the lens has jammed and it may free and clear the error. If not then nothing has been lost and you've gained an insight into the mysterious workings of a Powershot

        Cheers,

Its not a true repair if you don't have screws left over

but the odd thing is - it normally still works, least it does with washing machines and an old boiler I once fixed
