    Wi-Fi on Pixma MG7550

2 or 3 months ago I bought a Pixma MG7550 printer to replace an ageing HP Photosmart one. I set it up according to the instructions, but for some reason I am unable to print wirelessly. The Wi-Fi is set up, I've just done a firmware upgrade no problem, and I am able to use the printer connected to my PC using a USB cable, but one of the main reasons I replaced my old printer was that I wanted the wireless facility.

I've tried everything I can think of, going through all the troubleshooting pages in the manual, and I've had my lad look at it, who's heavily into computers (he builds and repairs them for a living) and uses Canon printers wirelessly at work, and even he can't suss it. I'm probably missing something really obvious, but has anyone else had a problem like this and resolved it? I can still use the printer, but not being able to use it the way I want to is annoying.

    John,

Have you looked at your router? Does it show the printer as a connected device?

I haven't Russell, I just assumed that since the printer is showing that it is connected to the router then that was all that was required. Not being all that computer savvy I'm not really sure how to check the router itself. I do know that my laptop can find other devices on the network, main PC, Smart TV etc., but it can't find the printer, so obviously the router is talking to the printer but the printer is not talking back!

You can access various settings from the LCD on the printer - if you scroll to the right you will find WLAN, then tap wireless LAN setup and it should then detect your wifi ( I have the 7150 so hope it is similar)

          Re: Wi-Fi on Pixma MG7550

We've had two Pixma printers. We have given up with the wifi set up. It is far too temperamental and liable to crash. There is no obvious reason for this - the printer is about 18" directly above the router so there should be no connection problems. We got fed up of reinstalling the software. We reverted to having the printer wired in and it has been no trouble since.
Yes it is a nuisance, but as we always seemed to be alternating the papers we use we decided that as we were stood by the printer we might as well have it wired in and save all the aggravation.
I don't know if this helps you, but at least it reassures me that the problems were not due to our error.

          Kind regards
          Sara W.

Got to say never really had much success with wireless printers. Always connect via cable and share on the device this way other computers on the same network can access. Only limitation is the device the printer is connected to needs to be on for others to be able to use it.

Quite honestly it is well worth trying to sort it out. My daughter has the same printer as me and I had both up and running within about 5 minutes.

Thanks everybody for your comments. I have gone through the set up process by the book and it's still not working, so it seems from other peoples experiences that the problem may lie with the technology rather than me! My lad is going to have a word with the people at work to see if there's anything he can do, otherwise I'll just keep using it wired up. At least it's a good printer!

I have a 7550 which is fine on wifi. I do vaguely recall needing to install the latest drivers from canon to get it working properly though, I seem to remember it not wanting to play with the drivers it came with.

I have downloaded the drivers from the Canon UK website but it made no difference. What's annoying is that it's probably something simple that I've missed.

It's more likely something on the printer that's not right, I find the menus are not very intuitive. Also worth noting that I have to switch mine off and back on occasionally as it loses the wifi.

My lad came down tonight and fiddled with a few settings, and lo and behold the printer now works wirelessly. He is not quite sure what he did, but thinks it had something to do with the "proxy server", whatever that is. At least it works as advertised now.
