    Help. Need new home printer

For a couple of years I have been using an Epson XP-750 home printer, scanner, copier. Mainly bought for A4 photo printing but must also be good at the other functions as I print a lot of B&W documents for my job.

Up till now the printer has been OK if a little temperamental at times. In the last few days its been real pain and although WiFi is set up correctly my Win 7 laptop wont find it. Its USB connected to my Mac and its shared so that others can to print to it.

I'm come to the end of my tether now and its time it departed this world. So folks, over to you. I need a replacement which must be an all rounder but produce really good home prints. Not fussed on make but MUST be Air print ready. Suggestions please before I take a mallet to my current one.
    Alan.

You are probably as cheap to use an online service such as DS colour labs to print your photos and get a cheap laser printer to do the B&W docs

Re: Help. Need new home printer

I just switched from using HP printers after 20 years to a Canon PIXMA MG7550 All-in-One Wi-Fi Printer.
So far so good, very happy with printing and print speed.

        to a Canon PIXMA MG7550 All-in-One Wi-Fi Printer
I have had the previous model, MG 7150 for a year now and you cant fault it, photo printing is first class and although I still mainly use DS Colour for competition prints at 15" x 10", I have used a few A4 prints in competitions with success. The other aspect is cheap replacement inks via First Call at Amazon - 2 complete sets for just over £20

7550 gets my vote too, and I'm using the First call inks on Stans recommendation and I can't fault it. I've printed stuff on it that people are happy to pay for as well.

Re: Help. Need new home printer

I've had an Epson R300 for several years now, and it just soldiers on without problems.

However a year or so ago, I fancied a new printer, and by way of change I decided to give a Canon Pixma a go.

I bought the ip7250, and I have to say, I have been impressed by the quality of the photo prints. I now use the Pixma for all my photo printing, and the Epson has been relegated to general printing duties.

I should say, that when I bought the Pixma, I just wanted a printer, and not a printer/copier.

whilst you don't have the convince of printing colour and seeing the results straight away I do agree with Alex

Re: Help. Need new home printer

Canon MG6450 is a great printer had it about a year no problems, prints well, good colours, not to bad with ink use either.

Had the same problem as you Alan with Epson printer, laptop, Windows 7. The Epsom was knackered, didn't want to print, it was only 2 years old but as like you it would not WiFi connect to my laptop anymore but is wasn't the Epsom it was Windows 7 that was the problem for WiFi connecting.

Re: Help. Need new home printer

Thanks to everyone that commented, really appreciated all the help and advice. I checked out the Pixma 7550 online, read reviews and watched videos. Tonight I stopped on the way home and picked one up!
Its sat to my side purring away. Tested the photo printing on decent paper and I have to say its head and shoulders above the Epsom. Well please so far.

I'm happy chappy. Thanks again chums.
                  Alan.

Cheers Dave. So far very happy. It prints when asked to do so.....unlike the Epsom!
