no, the minimum focus distance is no good for this sort of thing - when I am out looking for bugs, butterflies or dragonflies, I take my 300 f4 and converter and Canon 100 f2.8 L IS macro and it is the latter used to shoot theseIs this your Siggy160-600 again

that one is shot from ground level but the other one, the caterpillar was on a fern much higher so could only blur the background detail a bitlove the clean background on the second.
