    any advise on websites

Hi Guys, Ive had a bit of interest from people buying a few printed images of mine ,mainly friends of the missus but its a start .The missus has suggested I have a look at setting up a website to see if I can sell a few, while I am under no illusion this is a very oversaturated market and difficult to get sales . The financial controller has approved some funds to look into the various websites out there and if and thats a big if ,I manage any sales this can go towards new equipment. I know quite a few of you lads have websites so any advise would be appreciated .Ive initially looked at smugmug and the like so also any advise on the experience of using them would be greatly received.

    Thanks in advance

you have loads of options Dave - the first thing you need is a name & space which is very cheap - once that is set up its a case of looking at varoius packages

you can either lease a site paying a monthly payment that will offer a template and custom settings and access to a payment processer or buld your own which is now very easy

If you go down the own route which is the way I would recommend theres loads of templates & themes for photographers that use wordpress ( blog) and will include plug ins for shopping carts which you can directly link into a Pay Pal account - I'm happy to help you and should you get stuck I can log in from here to find out whats gone wrong

this site here offers loads of themes for WP - check it out http://themeforest.net/item/photogra...phers/11244061...

But... you failed to tell Dave that once he has a website he needs to get the same gardening clothes that you wear when gardening

Would you advise going for domain privacy Ian it nearly doubles the ten year cost?

As an alternative I use Zenfolio...probably costs more than needs to £120/year .... the domain is set up is through a link when you set up the site (£10), comes with a 'cart' and is already linked to print providers....which you can change and set your own prices. Lots of ready made templates, has a blog, you can set login codes to specific galleries to restrict access to any specific client....it also has a mobile version. You can send emails to invite people to specific galleries too which appear with a preview of the gallery built in. And there is a slideshow built in so clients can run through all the images without having to click each one. There are much cheaper Zenfolio packages but you lose some of the functions....mine is....

no don't worry about hiding ownership - as for zenfolio its an option but I prefer to own rather than lease - if you look at the cost hosting is 20.00 for 2 years - the theme is 30-40.00 thats it ;o)... and its yours ..
