Yes, Derek,it was my shadow as I photographed these little fellows. Similar to Meercats but not as frightened of people. Yes, tranferring my slides and negatives to my computer is such a long job that I know that I will never finish the job in my life time. I have over 4000 slides plus negatives from different parts of the world.

You have my sympathy Nat re transfer of slides. I spent two winter's doing that job, and ditched quite a lot as well, still have a lot of them filed awaiting a bit of correction mainly Ektachrome ones, soften the blue tones!!

                    Nice set Nat.

The first one you have titled Whistler on Whistler Mountain. I'm guessing Whistler is a local name ? I ask because it looks similar to the European Marmot and these guys use loud whistles to warn each other that danger is approaching. We have heard this whistle many times on our hikes when approaching the boulder fields that they make their homes around.

Scott, the Whistler does give a whistle sound and hence it's name. I saw this fellow when I went up the Ice fields in British Columbia. I was also told that it was on the "whistler mountain" which was actually covered in thick ice. You may be correct re the Marmot. They do give out a loud ear piercing whistle. I actually saw this fellow because of it's whistle!.
