I'm about to buy a 100 macro f2.8L and need a ring flash . The canon is expensive....would you have any advice on independent models....i.e Yongunu or Intetfit or others?

Re: Ring flash for macro
I have the Canon MR 14, and as you say it is expensive and you have to buy the lens adapter separately, which from memory was around £30.
But for a fraction of the price you can get the Yongnuo MR 14, looks identical and does everything the Canon does and includes a range of adapters for different lenses. Had it been available when I bought my Canon MR 14, I would certainly have bought the Yongnuo in preference.
Being sold on Amazon by various sellers http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yongnuo-YN-1...s=yongnuo+14ex

Re: Ring flash for macro
Anyone tried one of those cheap ring lights on amazon & eBay? Just a led ring, not a flash. Took possession of a 100L today.TS-E17 F4L, 70-300L, 100 F2.8L Macro. http://www.flickr.com/photos/waynelsworth/

Re: Ring flash for macro
I've never tried one, but when looking for a RF I did a lot of research and the biggest complaint with the LEDs was being under powered:- Ian

Re: Ring flash for macro
Cheers Ian. I could get a flash but I'd prefer to light things to start with. Seems simpler.TS-E17 F4L, 70-300L, 100 F2.8L Macro. http://www.flickr.com/photos/waynelsworth/

Re: Ring flash for macro
it will mean always working with a tripod and TBH I just put the flash on set the camera to 1/60 and adjust aperture - for me using a RF is all about freedom when doing marco work - saying that I still use a tripod sometimes ;o)..:- Ian

Re: Ring flash for macro
Yes Wayne, I have one, along with a Canon ring flash, it works ok and can be steered, i.e. You can have it on either all, various power settings or left or right so you can work with shadows, it also came with a set of adaptor rings, you can also use it permanently lit i.e. on.
I haven't used it in a while but could run off the odd shot for you if you want, I used it at work etc handheld on my 24-105L walkround lens while taking shots in the aircraft Undercarriage bays etc of hole distortion,Last edited by TonyT; 18-11-2015, 23:46.Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...
