    Not another Moon Image

Sorry Boys and Girls I had nothing better to do and saw that the moon was looking clean and bright so had to grab my camera and take a few snaps.

Taken at around 4:30pm with still a little indigo light left in the sky plus it's only a half moon which is actually best to bring out the finer details.

5D mkIII + 400mm with x2 extender and still a big crop!/tripod/mirror locked up/self timer/IS on even with tripod its still wobbly/iso 160?? thought i'd set it to 100 (should have used my glasses).

Nice and sharp Paul. As a matter of interest what are those "pock" marks on the surface? Are they craters?

Many thanks to all for time to look and comment
Though looks like i missed the northern lights as a lot of images on twitter showing the aurora around East yorkshire last night (ain't that typical)

Like that very much Paul, seems more interesting than a full moon
                    Thanks Alan
The full moon always seems a bit flat and the light is too harsh to show up all the craters so yes a half moon is definitely best to get a 3 dimensional feel to the shot.

                    Hi Nat
Yes all those "pock marks" are craters, the moon has taken one hell of a beating over its lifetime.

Most people, me included, wait for the full moon to shoot but as you prove here again, you get more and clearer detail with the half moon

Next time we get a clear evening down here must remember to try it

I've never managed to get a shot that I'm completely happy about when the moon is full, you can still get nice shots but just can't get any real finer detail to show up.
