    Fork 'n Spoons

Tried some more cross polarisation today but used the laptop screen rather than my I pad as a background

I have tried a few things but nothing gives such a dramatic effect as the cutlery and some things, in particular plain plastic bottles, don't work at all

what could be interesting is to create a small walled box then just put the items in randomly / thrown in - then see how many you can get in still keeping the light coming through .... again 50/50 on the credit for a great idea please Stan

                Re: Fork 'n Spoons

Not too sure that would work Ian as you really need a single clearish plastic object placed on or very close to the light source. Looking on google, as well as cutlery, people use plastic stationery, glasses, ball point pens etc so some other ideas to try out

Thanks Stan for stirring some memories. I remember trying this many years ago with Kodachrome 25 & CD Covers - wasn't very successful! Encouraged to have another go after seeing these.

                    Thanks for looking Bob

I have seen tutorials in the past where you have needed, as well as a circular polariser, a sheet of polarising film at a cost of around £40 - at that point I lost interest but this idea is so simple and cheap as you are using either a tablet or laptop screen, both of which are polarised, as a replacement for the film

                          Re: Fork 'n Spoons

Very interesting thread Stan - you could try restraining the items in some way to put them under stress, since it is the stress patterns in the material (resulting from the moulding and cooling process) that you are revealing - this might give further avenues for exploration.

yes I saw that suggestion elsewhere and something to try in the future
