    Wireless ...................?

I'm completely new to "wireless" flash and I must admit I assumed that this meant something like WiFi, i.e. radio controlled. However, it seems I'm wrong and when Canon talk about wireless flash control, they actually mean slave flash, controlled optically by the inbuilt flash and that therefore the sensor on the external flash actually has to be able to "see" the light from the inbuilt flash. I have a Yongnuo 568EX II flashgun and all I want to do is to have it on a bracket which lifts it well up above the camera. I have the bracket but have failed to get the Yongnuo to fire in this position, presumably as it's facing the same way as the inbuilt flash. Everything works OK when the inbuilt flash light can reach the Yongnuo sensor. In any case, I ideally want only the external flash to fire, not the inbuilt one.

Am I right to assume that the only choices I have are to get either an old fashioned off camera cord or one of the Yongnuo radio control units?

If you only want to raise the flash above the camera, then a flash extension cord would be the simplest, and cheapest option.

I control two Canon 430 EXll flash guns, mounted remote from the camera, using three Yongnuo wireless (radio) flash triggers.

This way, I can site them where I want them. without having to consider whether the infra-red receivers can see the camera.

Where the internal flash can control a suitable flash (not every model has this facility), it can be set so that it only acts to trigger the "slave" flash. Thus set it only flashes as part of the TTL process, and does not contribute to the actual exposure. As Dave says, if only using a camera mounted bracket an off-shoe cord is the easiest option.

doesn't the flash head of the yongnuo swivel round so that the sensor can face your camera. Just checked mines and it does

I have the YN568EXii and have gone for the YN622C-TX transmitter with the YN622C - TRX transceivers. The transmitter arrived today. Just waiting for the transceivers

Thanks for the info, very useful. I think I'll just stick to an off-shoe cord for the present.
The YN622C-TX transmitter with the YN622C transceivers is on Amazon at £81.90, more than the price of the flash, not worth it for my needs.
The only need I have for multi flash setups is with my table top studio where I already have four slave flashes which I'm used to using manually, the setup is always pretty much the same and so TTL is hardly needed.
I was just surprised that, considering how many things work by WiFi these days (including low cost items) that it isn't implemented in flash control by the camera, maybe that's something that will appear at some time, perhaps with the next generation of flashguns. After all, I can sit at my computer and control all of the camera's functions by WiFi through EOS Utility and so I wouldn't have thought it was that difficult, or expensive, to implement flash control by WiFi as well.
