    Canoscan FS4000

I've been given a Canoscan F4000 but sans the USB connecting cable.

Anyone know if this is one of those cases where you must use a specific Canon supplied cable or will a generic one do? Nothing in the manual specifies a particular Canon part number for the cable so I suspect that a generic is OK, just wondered if anyone knows for sure.

That one is off my Canoscan 9000f

This one is off my old Canoscan 3200f

Note that both of the cables have what I believe to be some form of anti interference coils at each end. IHTH

USB cables always seemed to have the ferrite blocks but seem to have largely disappeared these days. Just looked at cable on my Canon scanner printer and its just a standard A to B USB cable.

Don't see any reason why standard shouldn't work. If you need to buy one don't go to PCWorld as they charge a small fortune, £10 for 2m. Currently a 5m one is £2.09 at Maplin! Check places like Tesco/Argos.

I think any scanner/printer cable will work OK, the only thing to check out is it the scanner is compatible with your operating system - I had a very good canon scanner which would no longer work past Windows Vista which is why I bought an all in one a couple of years back

Good point Stan, I too had to buy new scanner as last was no longer supported in Win 7. Just shows how old the scanner was!

Thanks folks. I'll pick up a generic cable next time I'm in town - unless I can blag one off the IT guys....

I'm still lumbering along on XP so should be OK plus I downloaded an XP driver from Canon USA. Failing that I've got Vuescan too.
