      ..I agree with manual aperture and shutter and auto ISO.....I'd just add that you don't always need a long focal length.....a standard zoom is good....some of my best shots are at less than 100mm on full frame.

        Definitely getting better

        Once you crack the technique that you're happy with, then have a look at the framing/composition and were the light and background looks best also get down low to the dog's eye level (though i see that could be a problem with the size of Susie)
