    15 stop Lee Filter

Lee’s Super Stopper 15-Stop ND Filter Turns a 2 Sec Exposure Into 17 Hours

Lee Filters is getting a new neutral density filter called the Super Stopper. It reduces light to your camera by 15 stops, meaning an ordinary 2-second exposure will take over 17 hours to expose through the filter.

The new Super Stopper filter will join the Little Stopper (6 stops of light) and Big Stopper (10 stops of light) in the Lee Filters family of long-exposure ND filters. Like its smaller siblings, the Super Stopper will be available for the 100mm, Seven5, and SW150 lines of Lee Filters products.

another filter onto my must have list, although a 17 hr exposure I think we would need aircon on the sensor

I use a 16 stopper for Hitech. A typical exposure for me can be anything from 4.5 mins to 9 mins, and that's on an overcast day.

Blimey, that's an awfully long time!

My Lee Big Stopper, along with the filter holder fell off my camera recently, £100 down the swanny! I've replaced it with a Formatt Hitech Firecrest 10 stop filter, they reportedly have very little colour cast compared to the Big Stopper. Formatt make a wide range of ND filters in the same range. http://www.formatt-hitech.com/filters/firecrest-nd

Yes that's the brand name I was meaning Andy. I have to say there is almost zero colour cast when I use mine. I plumbed for the screw on type. Less additional apparatus required and much quicker to set up. Of course the downside is either stepper rings or buy for other lenses. Fortunately for me(at the moment) all my mine lenses are 77mm.

I went with the square version purely because I have the Lee holder and grads, it seemed to make sense. The Firecrest is a very tight fit though and you have to stick the rubber gasket on yourself. I've only used it the once and it turned out to be a cr*p shot anyway.

I do like My Lee Filters although sometimes on a windy beach the front glass does feel exposed but fortunately I haven't had a serious mishap like Andy with any filters. For 15 stops I use the Big Stopper and Little Stopper together and so far have never found any light ingress issues.

yeah but just think with the 15 stopper you could use that as well and have a 30 stopper - this way you could set the shot off, go holiday for weeks and probably get back about the right time to collect the camera
