        My one bit of advice is try to find a good foreground object - it really makes a difference. A dead tree, crumbling castle, etc - or calm water that reflects the aurora in the sky.

          Agree with James a foreground interest will certainly make a shot a bit special. Seems a bit strange saying that when you're photographing one of nature's best displays.

                Thought the one with my neighbours farm added a bit, all be it mostly light pollution.
