    Re: JPEG Photo Marathon

I said I’d post on here if I bothered the judges and to my great surprise I was informed yesterday on the website that my name was one of 5 commended after awarding the first 3 places.

I was thrilled and looking back at my 12 pictures decided it had to be one of two conventional but goodies- pictures that had fairly zinged off the screen thanks to bright sunshine and L lens. Or perhaps my fisherman hammering had been forgiven for his shady face.

Today I was sent an email with further details … No! it was the one posted below – unretouched.

Make no mistake I’m chuffed to have been judged in the top 8 from 360 submitted photographs and will most gratefully accept any humble applause coming my way. But in my view this was just a snap of someone’s graffiti ….. . and yet it was judged by 2 photographers from the parent and a distant club, an expert photographer, an artist and a Town Hall representative. 5 folks no less! And judged in total anonymity so no favours given.

Any comments on my picture by you folks would be most welcomed. Feel free to be as puzzled as I am....

The winning pictures will be displayed publically in 10 days time. My next surprise was to be told I could tweak the image and resubmit- they will print all winners and HC’s

So I won’t be able to see what the winners achieved straight out of the box after all. We’ll all have had a little tweak which almost negates the basic rule on entering.

Well done, Bo. I have to say that I'm not puzzled; as a straight out of the camera shot the subject is interesting, the colours are lovely, the lighting is even and the elements are all straight, centred and well composed. To be honest, I can't actually see anything to tweak, now that you may have got the chance. But it does seem very very strange that the winners can now tweak them because this, as you say, is completely at odds to the whole point of the competition.

Well done Bo for taking on the challenge.
A great learning curve that we could all do with now and again

Yes indeed a great learning curve.

I've appreciated your comments too, Alex, as it's enabled me to look at this picture anew.

          Many thanks for stopping by.
