    Eyeball to eyeball

I'm not really into animal photography mainly because I'm not very patient, but sometimes livestock is a bit easier.

Not sure if this one works but it is a crop of a head on shot of a calf that was quite happy to let me get close. Just as well I was the other side of the fence because its mum was a bit agitated.

Nice framing, but if the eye was a bit more sharper the the hair on the forehead, you would have a winner.

        Re: Eyeball to eyeball

        Thanks for your thoughts.

I had another go in Lightroom to reduce the contrast and sharpness overall and then used the adjustment brush to bring the area round the eye back up. Not a lot of room to work with as the focus on the original was on the forehead rather than the eye. Anyway for what it's worth here it is.

I's not too bad and I can definitely see what you were after.
But I'm with Tom, as the eye is the focus and your drawn to it would be better if it was in focus.

nice shot but I do agree with the guys that eye and the lashes need to be really sharp to work - still nice shot

I'd have thought at F13 and shot wide'ish that the eye would have been sharp even with the focus on the forehead?

                  Thanks for looking and commenting.

I'd have thought F13 would have given a better result too.

However I have noticed that the depth of field on my 24-105 F4L doesn't give a great deal of DoF until stopped down to F16 where sharpness overall seems to improve as well.

The makings of a great shot, maybe worth another go?
