Battery Grip for Canon 100D (SL1)

I understand that Canon never intended to make a battery grip for this camera. That being the case:-
does any member use a battery grip with the Canon 100D? I am seriously considering getting a third party grip for my 100D so as to support my new 70-300mmL lens by giving me a better grip on the camera. If any member is using one, could you please let me know (1) what happens to the battery cover on the camera when the grip is inserted into the battery compartment? (2) Is the remote cable advertised with these 3rd party grips necessary for use with the camera in normal use i.e than remote control use?

    Many thanks for your help.

If I remember correctly; the battery cover is stored within the grip.
But I would have thought that the whole idea of the 100 D was its small size and weight? So why add bulk to it? The main weight of the outfit should be supported with the left hand under the lens anyway.

With most grips you remove the battery box cover and store it in the grip ,it will be self explanatory anyway ,the Chinese are very good at working these thing out ,the better grips are branded Meike and work well in my experience .i will say it probably won't do much for gripping the camera but should help immensely with the balance with your lens ,tc combo

I've used a Mieke grip with my 60D and found build quality and operation to be excellent. Also used one with my 5D3 again can't fault build/operation. Currently don't use either, more about space than anything else, but every time I do a portrait shot really miss the extra shutter release.

Grips certainly make handling better but I'm baseing that on having quite large hands. With large lens was really helpful, also liked the twin battery facility.

I did a bit of a poke around when you first asked this Nat but forgot to respond. Basically the 100D doesn't have the internals to support a grip so you have to use an external connector - there's a thread about it here - http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52823048

Thanks guys for all your comments. Yes, I did get a battery grip via Ebay, a good one but the removal of the battery cover was a bit too fiddly for my fingers, and so I have returned the grip and awaiting a refund. I had one sent from China- a really solid grip. Hence, I am continuing to use my 100D with my 70-300mm L + kenko combo. I also have got a canon 1200D, which is brand new, which I bought for my grand kid but he doesn't like it. So I have advertised it on Ebay and if no one is interested, I might use it with my 70-300mm lens. Certainly gives me a better grip. If any member is interested in the brand New T5/1200d with new Canon bag plus all accessories, unopened, please send me a PM. Take a look at my advert on Ebay with photographs.
