    Re: Camera Strap

looks very similar to the Optech system ?

these straps are ok if you've not got a backpack on, but if you've got one it does get caught up with the backpack strap

      Re: Camera Strap

I have tried various straps for the last 18 months ,the black rapid coming out as best for sustained use ,the main problem and p.i.t.a is the D clips that secure to your camera and/or tripod mount as I have found that there's a possibility they can come unscrewed as you walk about ,in fact a good friend had it happen and both camera and lens ended up on concrete leading to a large insurance claim .i have therefore modified mine and now use op.tech end clips to evenly support and protect my gear ,one strap is fitted to a side lug on the lens itself and I have fitted a extra long arca Swiss plate mounted to my tripod mount with a new hole drilled out and the other strap fitted to that . This set up ensures free movement either wearing a heavy jacket or with a backpack on and also ensures a good centre of gravity to carry the lens and camera.
The other benefit is that if you do need to either fit to a tripod or monopod mount or rest on a flat surface nothing gets in the way and nothing has to be undone

        Re: Camera Strap

One of the reasons I chose the Cottoncarrier was so that I could use a back pack and have my hands free when walking.

Very much a personal preference thing a camera strap, but what ever you choose its going to be far better than the Canon one!

          Re: Camera Strap

Prior to buying my current strap which I mentioned elsewhere, I used one of these,

Mine is the Allen key version, as you say the worry is it always unscrewing, as the strap attaches to it like the normal canon one I added a lanyard on one end which I passed the strap through and on one of the top camera strap mounts, that way if. It ever unscrewed the camera would dangle on the lanyard but still attached to the strap, if that makes sense, they also do a plate you can attach the c-loop too that allows the strap to move forward if you have a heavy lens on and also allows a tripod to be mounted as well as doubling up as a mounting plate. Best practice was to check it was secure each time you pick up the camera though.

Still using and loving my Peak Design strap which I use on the camera base and one main strap mount.

I've seen these on sites, but I just don't know how happy I would be clicking the camera onto a backpack strap - plus when I'm out the camera never leaves my hand

Not sure what you mean there Tigger. The Cottoncarrier has a harness that wear a bit like a vest and is fully adjustable. Spreads weight across both shoulders and still allows me to use my camera bag (rucksack type).
Particularly good when walking as camera is held well and doesn't swing/flap about.

Don't know if would have bought one without seeing/talking to a guy who had one.

this is the image search I did Ant

The Strap Shot from Cotton Carrier is a highly useful addition to your backpack. It completely eliminates the hassle of taking out and putting back your camera into the backpack every time you use it. It’s also a lot more..

                  Re: Camera Strap

i suppose a lot of it depends on what body and lens combo you intend to use with it .we all haven't different needs and varying body sizes and shapes ,theres no one size fits all solution

                              Re: Camera Strap

On the Sun Sniper website there is an image of a man hanging from the strap, not sure what that proves!
Its not the strength of the strap that concerns me its the ability of the tripod mount to take the weight.

I just have an irrational dislike of using the tripod mount to hang the camera, I much prefer to hang the camera from the mounts designed to take the weight and distribute it properly.
Yes, possibly irrational I know and accept. Thats why I like my Optech straps.
