It's worth bearing in mind that the long exposure noise reduction will take a same length shot which for star trails isn't a good thing as typically your 20-30 second exposures will show gaps given you want to be shooting for an hour or so.

A simple fact. The 6D's full frame sensor is 2.6 times the size of the 7D MkII and therefore each individual photo diode will be larger as the pixel count is identical for the two cameras. Accordingly the ability of the larger photo diodes to gather light is improved and, therefore, both the ISO performance and noise levels are better.

Comparing these cameras is like comparing apples with bananas. One is designed for speed and the other not. If you photograph action and also require a fast burst rate, choose the 7D if you don't well you can work it out. I regularly judge photographs at my Club and as a result I do see the differences between cameras. If you want high dynamic range and low noise then go buy a Sony or a Nikon as they both out perform Canon in that respect. BTW I don't have either a Sony or a Nikon but a 5D MkIII and a 5D Mk IV so my comments are unbiased.

I have just changed my 6D for a 7D2 and I am very pleased indeed with the 7S2.

For example I get: much sharper pictures

    - better focus with 65 points
    - more focus area choices, from 1 point to 1/3 of the screen (plaus the whold screen)
    - 2 speed fast ( which I have set at 5fps and 10fps)
    - 2 memory cards

Oh - I have also added the extra batter pack for the flash - so it is now running at 5fps with flash :-)

I hope you get the camera you want, I also have the 70D, but some time this year I will be getting the 7D MkII :)

Don't discount the 80d,i have a 7dmk2 and it's perfect for me, but the 80d is a great camera and a little cheaper.
