The best way is perhaps take a look and not comment at all ,as Ant has done.

          Nat,

Perhaps you could explain that comment.

I certainly will do so. I am, like you, someone who does not like or enjoy that style of photography. It is certainly NOT offensive and if it was offensive, Robert would have removed it immediately. Hence I would NOT comment. "Simples" as they say! I might also add that there are some other genre like for example SPIDERS, which I hate and do not comment.

              Thanks Nat,

That suggests to me that you should not comment on a photo unless it is positive comment. I did not say it as offensive.

My reason for not commenting was because I don't particularly enjoy this genre I'd find it hard to make an informed comment.

HI! Just a small correction. Comments need not always be positive. Negative comments are perhaps better IMHO as it is made only to improve the member's photography & style. At the same time, if someone likes a picture very much, please say so. I receive both types of comments. On the other hand, even if I see a member's photo of a spider for example, with all its eyes and hairy legs, pin sharp, I will just shudder and will not comment at all. This forum is to improve one's photography.

I appreciate that I have not been using this forum long but the vast majority of the comments I see are good shot, nice shot, great shot, well caught, I like it etc, which are not particularly helpful if someone is looking to improve. I'll keep a look out for more constructive comments as you guys have been here a long time and have seen far more feedback (somewhat off topic)

                      Regards

                        Hi! Bazarchie,

I am sure you will see negative comments as well, but generally the members say it in the nicest possible way- a bit lighter,or a square crop, or the image is too small etc etc, unlike with some other photographic forums like for example talk photography and so on. By the same token, if your picture is good or satisfactory, the members are quite right to say that it is well caught, well done and so on. It would be counter productive to be negative if a photo is good and liked by the members. A good example of negative comments is my thread "Rubbish" by Imran Quershi. See under "specialised subjects"! That doesn't mean to me that it is all rubbish, as I have a good few positive comments on flickr for this same picture!!!!

I do see where your coming from, but on the other side if an image gets the views and no comments it does make someone wonder whats wrong, was it the image or in your case the member didn't have anything constructive to say so said nothing, where as at least a "well caught" - "nice work" does acknowledge the image and the effort put into taking it

This thread is taking on a different life of it's own much to Stan's possible annoyance!!!! However I must say that I do not agree with you, Ian , re your above statement. IMHO it is far better not to say anything rather than a meaningless "well caught", "nice work". In my comments made to date, I have said something positive only if I really liked an image. We must be honest to ourselves and one must not make meaningless comments to the member who then goes away thinking that he/she has hit the "jackpot"!!!!!! & keeps on making the same mistake over and over again.

you may class a well done as meaningless, but I would only say this if I enjoyed the shot, not just some meaningless throw away comment

This refers to the acknowledgement of the "image" and the "effort", which is something different IMHO to an image being "good"!
My comment was about this- the statement! Perhaps you meant to say something else.
