I do love seeing how the eyes are on bugs and flies, you caught it bang on plus like the water drop on the eye

Impossible to tell the species, but this one is a male. As in many (but not all) flies the eyes of the male nearly meet on top of the head, in the females there is a much larger gap. It's believed that this is because the males with larger eyes have better eyesight and hence can find the females more easily. And looking for females is basically all they do.

Well caught Stan [emoji106] whenever I've tried something like this I'm never quick enough. They always seem to flit before I've framed/made the image. I started to think they could hear the focus confirmation beep and were disturbed by it [emoji86]

not such a silly idea Ian although I have not used that method. There was a guy on another forum that used to catch flies and put them in the fridge for an hour to slow them down before taking a shot and a lot of those shots where you have total front to back sharpness and stacking has been used, you need to use an insect which is already dead. That is something we do plan to try at sometime in the future

for some reason greenbottles are much more flighty than many other flies and this was the result of quite a few attempts with a few different ones
