    Help & Input PLEASE : In-car UK 3-pin to 12v adaptor !

    Hello all;

    I am off on my travels shortly, and a part of our trip will involve a number of days without access to in-room mains power. Although we have a number of batteries for each of our cameras and will ensure they are all charged before we head into the wilds, I'm looking at getting an in-car 3-pin to 12v adaptor - similar to this one...

    Would also help keep stuff charged anyway while we're travelling...

    Does anyone have any experience of using these?

    I'm assuming that 150W will be overkill for a DSLR battery charger?

    MANY thanks for any help or input...
    Cheers;
    Lee

    Canon do one, not surprisingly not cheap.

    Also third party ones
    for example https://www.amazon.co.uk/Battery-Cha.../dp/B006T0R8AA
    Canon 5D3, 7D2, 60D, Canon 70-200L f2.8 IS II, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 16-35 f4 L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Canon 1.4 MkIII extender, Sigma AF 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary, Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD, Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

      Many thanks for responding... I had seen the Canon offering; but our problem is that between our 4x camera bodies we have 3x different battery sizes. Your Amazon option doesn't cater for a NB-10L (G3X), so I'm still looking at a simple 3-pin to 12v option I think... plus the Bestek option has USB charging ports as well!

      Thanks again; I think I'll go ahead with the Bestek and take a chance that it doesn't fry the batteries a la Samsung :-)
      Cheers;

        Did you consider the 400W Bestek Lee? Only an extra £10 for a more powerful unit. Only downside is that they say it should be directly connected to the battery for power draws over 150W so perhaps less convenient ... should then allow you to parallel charge multiple batteries though ...

          The only comment I'd make is be careful leaving it plugged in with the car unattended or not running* as, despite the low power it consumes, it could conceivably flatten your car battery overnight as many who have bought a 12v coolbox have found to their cost.

          For my off-grid needs I use one of these:

          IMG_0775.jpg

          It has a 300w inverter, 12v 'cigar' socket, USB, a powerful LED work light and jump leads for starting cars with flat batteries :biggrin:

          * your car may isolate the socket when the ignition is off.

          Cheers,
          John

              Well that would be the weight limit taken care of then; I guess just one pair of shreddies will suffice :-)
