    Lyttelton from the Port Hills

Having today just responded to Roberts thread regarding the use of tripods. This is an example where I hand held the camera for the five image panorama was taken in 2014. I've only just today processed the five image stitch.

This is looking down on to Lyttelton on the South Island of New Zealand from the Port Hills. Lyttelton was the port used by Ernest Shackleton for his expeditions to Antarctica. The island (Quail Island) to the right centre of the image was used as a quarantine station during the 1870's and later there was a Leper Colony there too.

For those interested I've also posted a larger version on my Flickr photostream.

Very nice. I'm in Christchurch at the moment and just made a 360 from Sugarloaf looking over CHCH and Lyttelton. How do you get up to that point in the Port Hills?

EDIT: Ah, don't worry, someone was telling me that there are walking tracks a bit further along than where I stopped

I hope you found it OK Bruiser. When we were there the road we used was closed just beyond where we parked up due to Earthquake damage. I made the images whilst walking from where we parked up (looking at a map think on Summit Road via Mount Pleasant Road out of Sumner) to the Gondola station at the top of Mount Cavendish.

Here's a couple of images (not panoramas) that may help you pinpoint where I was when making the Panorama.

                    1. Looking back to where we parked. Lyttelton is to the right hand side, with Sumner and New Brighton off to the left of the image. the road closure was just to the left of where the cars are in this image. The communications masts should give you a reference point on a decent map. The LINK is to a basic map showing the area. IHTH Bruiser.

                    2. The point where the road was closed when we were there in 2014, notice the bikers who were ignoring the road closure!. I'm not sure if the road is now fully open or not. This is looking towards Christchurch/New Brighton from near where we were parked.

Sadly, the weather didn't quite give the opportunity to go back up and search for that spot. I did manage to make this 360 with my 6d though, but I will certainly be heading back at some point  Must admit, it was great seeing the city being put together again after the 2011 quake, but was so disappointing to see the poorer eastern suburbs totally untouched since my last visit several years back...
