Thanks for reply, think you'll find the card is a 800x. I have one of these for my 5D3 and as you say it works fine. Fortunately I've never suffered a corrupt card.

Thanks for checking, looks like the 1066x are OK after all.

Sorry, have to disagree with that statement - the SD write speed is the same 150x regardless of writing raw or jpeg (it's a hardware thing). You may not "perceive" any slowing down, but that's due to the CF speed slowing to 150x too. Canon did this to differentiate between the 5D3 and 1Dx (they may not have sold many 1Dx's had they been the same specs).

While I don't do much in "machine gun" mode, it always annoyed me, and was one of the reasons I changed to a 5Ds.

The EOS 5D Mark III is optimised for high-speed CF cards. It will transfer data to them at around 45MB/s. However, the camera does not comply with the UHS (ultra high speed) standard for SD cards. You can use UHS cards, but they will default to a lower write speed – generally around 15MB/s. This means that if you are writing to both cards at the same time, the write speed of the slower card is used (you can’t simultaneously write to the CF card at one speed and the SD card at a different speed).

The reason you do not see this effect with the EOS-1D X is that this camera has slots for two CF cards.

Not something I've personal experience of as normally only write to CF and have option set to switch to SD if needed. The thing about writing RAW to both is only something I've read about in the past can't say if it's true or not.
