If I get hooked, I'll buy a macro lens

Excellent results even if they do show how wafer thin the depth of field is. Well worth experimenting with other levels of magnification.

    Cheers,

Sterling first effort, even though I have no idea what the first two are of! You will have discovered that you can get great results but the depth of field is really tight, even with you up at f/22. Can I suggest that next time you tone down the lighting as some of the reflections seem a bit burned out, and a bit of added side lighting may help accentuate the shapes.

what extension tubes are you using i'm looking to try some macro but on a very tight budget was thinking of giving tubes a shot first.

same reason I gave these a try...I will purchase a macro lens when I've decided if I want to pursue it, liking it so far.

I have seen these in wish.com for £13, but have very mixed reviews.

Even though f22 sounds a good idea for depth of field, you will lose an awful amount of resolution at that aperture because of diffraction. Even a single extension tube will push that to an effective f32 and you will never get really sharp images. Practically everybody doing serious macro these days uses stacking software and sets the lens to its smallest non diffraction limited aperture. It's the only way to get the really classy type of macro images you see these days. Lighting is also an issue, you really need a strongly diffused light source to get rid of reflections on shiny objects.
