EF 24-105 II slips to December

Picked up on canonrumers that the 24-105 II has slipped to early December. Only retail version apparently, the white box kit copies are not delayed ...

Good question Nat. Suspect there will be aspects that will be better. As current is actually quite an old design it would be surprising if there wasn't improvements.

I expect it will be a step change in sharpness .....as is the 100-400MKII compared with the MKI (according to the charts) which may be an advantage when using really high megapixel sensors like the 5Ds - I bet it will focus faster too.

Nothing wrong with White Box versions....

Expectation is the II will be "significantly better" - but that's not meant to write off the current version in any way. White box and retail only differ in packaging - specification and performance are identical.

There's a link to a review on canonrumors ... has some reservations rather than being a resounding endorsement.

will be interesting to see how this lens performs but the better IS is one reason alone to buy the lens offering better handheld low light work

Agreed - I think I was just expecting a more positive review. IS is becoming more and more important to me as advancing years bring unsteady hands. This is the first hands-on review I've seen - I'm sure they will start popping up all over the place over the coming weeks as shipments ramp up.

I'm still looking to get one sometime in the next six months. I did think about the 24-70 f2.8L II but the lack of IS really kills it for me as a walkabout.

agree its whats stopped me, plus with the mkii being newer hopefully will out perform the 24-70 - maybe a long shot but you never know...But for 1k I'm waiting till I see decent reviews and ideally putting the mk i / ii side by side

Lack of IS on short zooms has never really bothered me - nice to have but far more important on tele lenses.

Agree that we need to see several more reviews and particularly from ordinary users but I think at the price point it's at I'm not expecting too much.

A few seem to be filtering through lately - Calumet had some in stock a few days ago & Park Cameras showing one as in stock a few minutes ago with more to come...

agree DrJon not a great review and doesn't make me want to part with 1k for a upgrade

Agreed, if anything, it re endorses how good the mk1 is.

A partial review by LensRentals.com also points towards the Mk II perhaps not being worth the upgrade for Mk I owners.

sounds to me like Canon have made an error here and the value of the MkI will still hold out with people buying that over the new one ...
