    Extender help needed

    Advice on extender needed,
    I have a EOS350D with Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 USM II and a Canon EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 USM III.
    My question is:
Would an extender work with my 75-300 lens,
If so which one would you recommend,

You may find one that works ,but with that camera and those lenses I most definetly wouldn't recommend it as image quality would be terrible

I am 99.9% sure that the Canon Extenders won't work with those lenses - there is certainly guidance on which lenses do work with them if you spend some time googling it (sorry - I am procrastinating before getting back to writing a report for work!). As for non-Canon extenders, I have little or no knowledge. Sorry...

I would agree with Jeff here. I have both those lenses, and, although they do a decent enough job at what they are meant to be, kit lenses, trying to push them past that does give variable results at best. Regardless of functionality, you are losing at best a stop and a half with the 1,4x, and 2 stops with the 2x extender, added to already pretty slow lenses, your results wont be great I'm afraid.

There are bargains to be had used, so I would hold on to a kidney for now! There is lots of advice on this forum re lenses, and if you have a specific lens you are looking at, start a thread and ask. I have just bought from ebay. As long as you're careful, you can pick up good stuff. Happy hunting

                Guy's

Can I deduce from some the answers in this thread to date that the use of a telephoto extender is not really recommended with a dedicated zoom lens such as the EFS 55-250 f/stop 4-5.6 due to the obvious reduction in aperture range and if so, when would the use of an extender be suitable.

I am sorry to appear a bit dumb here but I would like to understand the principles and benefits of using an extender with the correct lens type.

                Regards

                  Re: Extender help needed

If it is not on that list you cannot use a Canon one plain and simple, the Canon one sticks out from the mounting and as such wouldn't fit, the lenses mentioned tend to have recess in them that it sits in, indeed some lenses the internal elements also move and would strike damage the lens and the extender.

Does anyone know of an extender (multiplier) that's compatible with EF-S lenses? I was recently asked that question and I couldn't find any mention of one. Theoretically I don't see any reason why one couldn't be made, but as far as I know none of the 3rd party TCs allow EF-S lenses to b...

The Kenko 1.4x will work with this lens and the 70D and 80D, but I've just tested it with the 50D and autofocus doesn't work. Really you need an effective aperture of F5.6 or wider for a/f to work correctly with most bodies, some can work at F8.

I seem to have gone full circle with t.c's this past year .i started with the kenko HD ,as it worked with my lens and 1D3 ,then when I changed cameras to the 80D the canon mkii was the only one that worked so the kenko went and the canon was aquired .a day out at new year with Steve Dawes led to me testing his sigma tc which turned out to be faster on my camera but wouldn't work on his 7D2 ,so we have now swapped and I have the sigma 1.4 and he has the canon ,talk about ring a Rosie's but at least we now have working combos .
Suppose it's problem with third party lenses really

Just a note of caution on buying Canon Extenders, i went to buy one from a guy on Gumtree today (Canon 1.4x II) and although in fitted onto my 750D, my lenses in my signature wouldn't fit onto the extender. Looks like it only fits the Canon L series lenses.
