Red Kite with food in flight

Red Kite with food in flight by Andy Leslie, on Flickr

I know this looks oversharpened, but actually I have hardly touched it! Processed with Canon DP4.5 to get a TiFF, then processed with PS CS6. I have found that ACR doesn't understand the 7D2 file format - especially noise - as well as DP4.5 does.

    Canon 7D Mk 2, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM, ISO 1000 1/800th sec f/5.6

This is Wales, mate, blue skies are not necessarily common.

Given the lighting, a great shot. Nice to see one without wing tags. Assume it was Gigrin Farm.

I have a couple of questions.

          Was it shot in RAW?

What were the in camera settings(sharpness, contrast etc)?

I ask because if DP4.5 works the same way as my old version of DPP then in camera settings get automatically applied to the picture when imported to DPP in which case I think that unless the picture is reset to the raw settings it will be saved with the in camera settings when converted to TIFF/jpeg. so any further processing will be on top of an already processed image.

Then again I could be completely wrong.

          Great shot by the way.

Greart Shot. One cannot at any time prescribe a blue sky for wild life photos, certainly not in UK.

Yes, I always shoot RAW, although sometimes RAW and JPEG simultaneously.

The camera settings are whatever the defaults are. Never touched 'em. The reason I use DP is because the noise is handled so much better than by ACR. I found this out when I shot some concert pix at ISO 16,000 and compared the results.
