    50mm f1.8 prime

Having recently started photography again, I am building up my equipment store. I recently purchased a 50mm f1.8 prime but it is very tight to mount on my 100d. Is this a common problem, or should I return it and try another for a looser fit?

All EF lenses should have a proper "tight" fit. Anything loose indicates a problem. I don't know exact what you mean. I have the 50mm f1.8 lens and it is a fairly tight and proper fit. You should connect the lens to the body with the red dots properly aligned. What body are you using?
It always helps if members, esp the newer ones give details of their equipment via the signature below as you can see with my post now.

P.S Ah! I see that you have a 100D body and therefore it is possible that you are trying to fit the lens incorrectly- it must be the red dot with the red dot both on the lens and camera body.

If it's really tight I'd have a look to see if anything looks odd then go back top the shop to compare it. It should be the same as your other lenses, more-or-less.

My 50mm f1.8 is a tighter fit than most of my other lenses but not by so much that it is a problem.

There should only be a slight variation between lenses. The machining tolerances are very small so if this lens is significantly tighter I would be suspicious that there may be a problem. Go back to the shop if possible.

Thanks for all the info, I have tried it again and I reckon I was so used to plastic mounts which are very easy but now on second thoughts maybe it is firm rather than tight. But thank you all for your thoughts and invites( the spanish one that is)
