Having recently started photography again, I am building up my equipment store. I recently purchased a 50mm f1.8 prime but it is very tight to mount on my 100d. Is this a common problem, or should I return it and try another for a looser fit?

Re: 50mm f1.8 prime
All EF lenses should have a proper "tight" fit. Anything loose indicates a problem. I don't know exact what you mean. I have the 50mm f1.8 lens and it is a fairly tight and proper fit. You should connect the lens to the body with the red dots properly aligned. What body are you using?
It always helps if members, esp the newer ones give details of their equipment via the signature below as you can see with my post now.
P.S Ah! I see that you have a 100D body and therefore it is possible that you are trying to fit the lens incorrectly- it must be the red dot with the red dot both on the lens and camera body.Last edited by Nathaniel; 03-12-2016, 09:22.Canon 6D; Canon 760D;Canon G15;Canon 40mm f2.8(Pancake);Canon 50mm f1.8(ii); Canon 17mm-40mm f4L;Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM;Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 STM lens;Canon 24mm-105mmf4L IS;Canon 70-300mm f4-f5.6 L IS USM;Kenko 1.4x HD TC;Canon 430EX ii flash;Giottos tripod;Manfretto monopod;Cokin P filters + bits and pieces!

Re: 50mm f1.8 prime
There should only be a slight variation between lenses. The machining tolerances are very small so if this lens is significantly tighter I would be suspicious that there may be a problem. Go back to the shop if possible.Alan
