    Landscape composition rules

Someone on another forum that I frequent posted a link to this article and I thought it was fascinating: http://photoinf.com/General/Johannes...ion_rules.html
As you can see it was written for painters rather than photographers, and they have a great deal more freedom in placing elements within a scene, but a pleasing image is a pleasing image so much of it is transferable when either composing an image in camera or post processing. But there are some interesting differences - the author is obviously not one for straightening verticals, for example.

Blimey - you can lose the will to live! I am sure it is all good stuff, and I have bookmarked it to go back, but if you follow all of the rules you will eventually end up with just one image that complies!!!

Hate the idea of rules much prefer to think of them as guidelines. Think we've all seen images that break 'the rules' and are perfectly good.

As my former Headmaster used to say: "Rules are made for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men!."
