        Well taken Ian, the head & antennae are pretty sharp - difficult on a creature that is always moving. For info. it's not a bee though - it's a moth ( Macroglossum stellatarum) also known as the Hawk-Moth.

                it's a moth ( Macroglossum stellatarum) also known as the Hawk-Moth.
                No, this is one of the Bee Hawkmoths, probably the Broad-bordered Hemaris fuciformis.
                Macroglossum stellatarum, the Hummingbird Hawkmoth doesn't have the partly transparent wings.
