Backing up raw images from 7D2

For travelling light I am taking an android tablet to backup raw images from a 7d2. I know that I can upload the raw CR2 files on to the tablet but unable to find out if I can simply backup the CR2 files on to a USB stick, using an OTG cable?
I have installed Photomate R2 which will view the files and perform certain editing but it will only save as JPEG or DNG files. I would prefer saving as CR2 files but are DNG files equivalent and can these be processed later using Photoshop.

Does anyone knows if this can be done and if so how (simple layman instructions please!!).
Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

John, it's not something that I've tried, but found this on Google.

Want to transfer photos to your Android phone/tablet while travelling? Here we show you how to send pictures from camera to Android without a computer.

You can get a SD reader that connects to a tablet, then you can just use a file manager to copy the files.

Thanks Autoknee, I am using CF cards and have managed to upload the CR2 files to the tablet. My problem is that I can't seem to backup the CR2 files using the OTG to a USB stick. I'm not intending to process the CR2 files on the tablet just use it to backup files to some other storage media.

Don't despair John, it can be done. I've just run a test to prove it.

I assume you have an Android tablet. If not stop reading here as the rest of this won't help.

The trick is to find an App that will help you. I used USB Media Explorer - a free App on the Playstore. Download and install it if you haven't already done so.

Start the App. If you receive a prompt saying "allow the app USB Media Explorer to access the USB device" all well and good, proceed to the next step, otherwise tap the third symbol from the RHS (looks like an acorn on its side in a box).

You should now have the message displayed. If you want this app to be the default everytime you plug in an OTG cable check the default box. I don't recommend this but you can if you wish. Either way click OK.

You will now see a display of the contents of the USB stick.

On the LHS there is an icon with three horizontal bars - tap it and select File Manager from the dropdown.

You should now have a split screen. The upper half showing the USB stick, the lower half the Tablet storage.

Scroll down through the tablet storage to the directory containing your CR2 files. Select the files you want to copy with a long press on the filename. On the RHS is a down arrow. Select it and you will receive a drop down menu including the copy option. Select copy and wait (it's fairly slow) and your files will magically appear in the upper (USB) window.

            Hope it works for you.

If travelling and weight/space is an issue then multiple mem cards are the answer. That's what I'll be doing, write to both CF and SD then split the cards between two different pieces of hand luggage.
