    Canon 100D

Not sure if this is a good price but looks reasonable to me, body and 2 lenses for £369. Might be worth checking if you're thinking about this camera.

        Re: Canon 100D

I looked at the 1300d in detail a while ago to compare with the 100d and couldn't see any advantages while it did lack some features in comparison but I can't remember what they were. They have the same 18 mp sensor but the 1300d has the digic 4+ while the 100d has digic 5. I can't see how the IQ of the 1300d could be better. The 100d is virtually the same as the 700, apart from size. Some people say it's too small but as a 5' 11" man with average size hands I don't find that a problem at all, the lighter the better.

I have two 100d bodies which I use as carry around cameras, I can fit both in a small shoulder bag with lenses attached and very light weight. I use these mainly with the stm lenses and normally jpeg only. Results are excellent. Since I mostly don't have time to go out just for photography, being able to take these with me at all times is a great advantage when I couldn't cope with the weight of the other kit.

The reality is that all so-called entry level cameras have features which we would have only dreamed of a few years ago at a very low price. We've never had it so good. The low cost lenses are also remarkably good within their limitations of moderate maximum aperture, although they are often criticised by people who have never used them.

Another vote for the 100D, taking mine plus two STM lenses on holiday shortly, leaving all the 'heavy gear' at home.

Indeed, the 100D is a terrific little camera. However, the 75-300mm is not one of Canon's better lenses.

Well I am no expert but bought this kit and ended up buying the 55-250 lens to replace the 75-300 that has no IS the 100D seems a great little camera to me and even I have had some nice results with it as others have said very light and compact

Now all you need is the 10 - 18 mm STM IS to cover the whole range from 10 - 250 mm, that's equivalent to 16 - 400 mm on full frame or film.
The main limitations with the "entry level" cameras compared to the "enthusiast" models are the relatively slow autofocus and fewer a/f points, which does make it more difficult to get fast action shots, such as birds in flight, though far from impossible.
One advantage of the 100D is the touch screen. I know a lot of people aren't bothered, but I've learned that using the Quick menu and the touch screen, you can check and change the main settings very quickly. I rarely use the buttons these days unless I really don't want to take my eye from the viewfinder. I don't think the 1300D has a touch screen, it does have WiFi which I never use so no loss to me. The 6D also has WiFi but I would have preferred a touch screen, preferably articulated.

My daughter purchased a 1300d camera 6 months ago and she is extreme;y disappointed with some of the results she's getting. The shop she bought it from has returned it for checking the focus system. She has used a canon dslr before & had some excellent sharp shots so I can understand her feelings about this particular camera

                      Re: Canon 100D

One of the disadvantages of the lower end cameras is that you can't do autofocus micro adjustment like you can with the more expensive models. The easiest way to tell if it's an a/f problem is to take a photo of a suitable target with live view and then with normal viewfinder method. The first should always be in focus, if the second isn't then it's an a/f problem. Of course, if the camera was bought with a lens, that could be at fault.
