    Re: Computer up grade

I run W7 on an ancient laptop. It works but not exactly brilliant.
Best thing you can do to that is to buy an SSD and clone the drive over onto the new drive, then swap them, I did an old gents for him and it was reborn, flies along beautifully, APS open quick, thing boots in no time and the web is quicker to download..

I still use an old Dell XPS 730X because with Windows 10 and an SSD in it, it flies, It then has another 4 hards in it for software and pictures etc.
    Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...

      Re: Computer up grade

Thanks folk for all your good advice. I got my IT chap to call round today and he had a good look and said that I needed a new TOWER (desk top) and I can keep everything else as it is - same monitor, same speakers, same keyboard etc etc. He also said that he would transfer all the data etc to the new Windows 10 next Tuesday, for the princely sum of £350!!!! May be a bit steep considering that I could have got a new monitor, keyboard etc for that price via Argos/currys. However, I know my IT chap as he has done some work for me before on the Windows Vista.

I have two printers- a Samsung and a Canon MX300. He said that the Canon printer was not compatible with W10. Is there any way I could operate the Canon MX300 with Windows 10?

What's he charging you £350 for Nat? A new PC and transferring the data or just transferring the data? If the latter you're better off finding someone else...

            Re: Computer up grade

Canon will not issue drivers for this model to support the Windows 10 operating system. The Windows 7 or Windows 8 drivers should function in the Windows 10 environment with some limitations which are currently unknown to Canon.

The IT chap is charging me £350 for the whole thing- Tower plus all the transfer of data etc. He will also be on tap for any advice, problems for 12 months. Furthermore I know the chap as he did a good job with my PSU in 2014. It is still working fine.

Fair enough Nat. The numbers weren't completely clear so I wanted to be sure you weren't being taken for a ride.

Just one more thing for you to consider before you sign on the dotted line Nat. Are you happy with your current monitor? If it is showing it's age you might decide not to spoil the ship for a halfpenny worth of tar.

Thanks Russell. My current monitor looks OK to me. the colours are quite bright etc. However, I will discuss this also with the IT chap next Tuesday. He is quite a respected chap with a good "following"! As they say, personal recommendation is the best form!
